  	Lula Bernice Smith Whitaker, 91, of 1282 Ruhamah Road, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, N.C. Born in Anderson County, Mrs. Whitaker was a daughter of the late Martin Lewis and Ada Nix Smith. She retired from Dan River, and was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Mothers' Sunday School Class. Surviving are a son, Ben Whitaker Jr. of Liberty; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lillie Mae and Harold Smith and Rachel and Frank Perkins, all of Liberty; a sister, Mary Etta Hunter of Central; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Whitaker was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Whitaker Sr.; a son, Martin Reid Whitaker; three brothers; and five sisters. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Wayne Garmon and William Swink. The committal service, in Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, will be conducted by the Rev. Garland Sentell.
