  Mary, daughter of Charles Gwatkins, Jr., and Catherine Clayton (dau. Johm Willis Clayton & Mary Clayton), was born 13 April 1810.  Her paternal grandfather, Charles Gwatkins, Sr., died in 1806, a Captain in the Revolutionary War, who had married 6 November 1767 Mary Callaway (d. 1829), a daughter of Richard Callaway and Frances Walton.
