Notes - Elijah, son of George Anderson and Jenny Bradley, was born in Cumberland co., VA in 1789. He and Celia had no children but raised the children of his brother, David, and Celia's sister, (69) Mourning, as their own. Celia died in 1821 and is buried in or near Eatonton f GA. The heirs of Celia Anderson; Jane, Elizabeth and David, were named in administration and distribution of slaves of (15) Jesse White on 8 January 1840 (Autauga co. AL, Bk A, Vol.1, p33). This document is misleading. The children raised by Elijah were accepted as his children, thus children of Celia. The actual parents became a vague memory to family members, perhaps forgotten. Elijah married again 7 November 1826 to (36) Judith David White. She died in 1837. There was no cemetery nearby and Judy was the first person to be buried in the family cemetery. Elijah died in Gwinnett co., in 1840, and was buried 5 miles east of Lithonia in DeKalb co., in the Anderson and Maguire cemetery, next to Judy. In the settlement of the estate of George Anderson in 1825:
Elijah Anderson of the State of Georgia for himself and guardian for David Anderson's children, and Chesley Anderson of Cumberland Co., Va., for $1581, sold to Jno Dunkum 1531 acres, being part of the lands of the estate of George Anderson.....
Elijah is buried near the David Anderson home in Anderson and Maguire Cemetery. The last person to be buried in this cemetery is Mrs. Burke (Pearl) Walker who stated, in 1958, that there would be no remaining space following her burial.
