    • DOROTHY DAVIS LAWYER, 84, of Memphis, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2008. She was born inDurant, Mississippi on September 16, 1923, and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Douglas Lawyer, as well as her parents, Brooks and Minnie Davis, who instilled and cultivated her love for music, service to others and education. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women and taught school for many years in Memphis, Atlantic Beach, FL, and Jackson, MS. She is survived by her three loving children, Scott (Leigh) and Jennifer Lawyer of Memphis, and Garry (Dana) Lawyer of Meridian, MS; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dottie was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church as well as the Walking By Faith Sunday School class, the Martha Mary Circle, the Stephen Ministries program, and the Kings Daughters, as long as her health permitted. In addition to the numerous activities associated with her church related duties, she was also a volunteer worker at the Church Health Center and the Neighborhood Christian Center, where she served as a member of the board of directors for many years. Her life was an example to many, of a person with a servant heart and mind who lived to serve others, as she had learned from her parents. She was a devout friend and thoughtful caregiver for many of her associates. She particularly loved to bake and deliver her apricotnectar cakes as well as her homemade vegetable soup to her friends. Her love for her friends and family was surpassed only by her love of devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Visitaton will be held in the Salmon room at Second Presbyterian Church beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service in her honor in the Chapel at 12 Noon on Tuesday, February 19. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor be sent to Second Presbyterian Church (Caring Ministries) or the Church Health Center. Family Funeral Care 901-761-8000
