(Oliver) Shelley maternal great-great granddaughter WHITE-SUTTLES  F528 My great-great grandfather, Mahuschel Hashebez White was born in Georgia, November 26, 1826; died September 21, 1878. At the time of the writing, information on his ancestors has not been verified. I have been told that his mother named him after the longest name in the Bible. He was a Baptist minister. He married my great-great grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Suttles, in Lauderdale County, Mississippi on November 4, 1852. She was born in Bibb County, Alabama, June 14, 1836. She died October 3, 1914. both are buried at Elm Grove Cemetery, in Collin County, Texas. My great-great grandparents lived in Mississippi and Alabama. When rumors of the Civil War started, they brought their three daughters to Collin County, Texas, near Westminster, Texas, where grandfather built a cabin and started farming. he received draft papers from Mississippi and served as a Chaplain in the Confederate Army. My great-great grandparents lived many years in Collin County and raised their children there. A story related to me by several descendants was that of my great-great grandmother being alone with four of her little girls, while great-great grandfather was away at war. At that time the Indians were raiding and burning homes of the white people. When the Indians came to great-great grandmother's cabin, she hid her four little girls in flour barrels and left the mare tied to the front of the cabin. When the Indians saw that great-great grandmother was Indian they turned and left her unharmed. My great-great grandmother was a descendant of the Choctaw Indian Tribe. etc... Family story has it that Elizabeth Ann Suttles White wrote a letter to Eliza (her daughter) and said the following. "I was born in an Indian camp in Alabama and married in an Indian camp in Lauderdale Mississipi" Marriage date Nov 4, 1852, Lauderdale Mississippi (microfilm #899112) Elizabeth A. SUTTLES and M.H.
