    • August Christian Ruff, 80-year-old resident of the Germantown community ended his life late Friday afternoon by firing a single-barrel shotgun into his throat at the home of his son, Walter Ruff, 12 miles northeast of Athens.

      Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home, Bro. David Bobo officiating, and interment was made in the German Cemetery, McConnell in charge.

      Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased.

      A native of Wurttemberg, Germany, Mr. Ruff was one of the original settlers of the Germantown community in this county, coming to the United States in March 1882. He married the former Miss Louise Eisenman a few years later, and to the union were born six children, Mrs. Paul Schultz and Mrs. Rosa Clements of Kuna, Idaho, Mrs. Louis Kobb of Storm Lake, Iowa and Mrs. W. W. Kull, of Austell, Ga., and Miss Lillie Ruff of Athens, Route 1, and a son, Walter Ruff, Athens, Route 1, all of whom survive, in addition to 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
