Notes - Their son, Leland, claimed to have been born in Campbell co., VA (in 1799) but John Allen and Lucy Allen of Pittslyvania co. sold 100 acres in Bedford county to Laban Hail, in 1801, placing them in that county. The parentage of John Allen is not known but a granddaughter stated that among John Allen's siblings were two brothers, Jeremiah and Thomas Allen. John Allen came to Georgia about 1820 and settled in Putnam county.
In his will written 27 June 1827 he does not mention his wife, Lucy, or second wife, (69) Mourning White Anderson, but does name "my son Leland Allen," "my daughter Frances Allen," to my daughter Celia Allen," "the children of my daughter Frances Allen," and also names several of his slaves. John may have been a cobbler by trade, i.e. his wife, Mourning, presented (undated) a bill to the administrators of (70) Micajah H. White's estate, for shoes made on 24 March 1824 by her husband, John Allen, for a member of Micajah's family.
