He graduated from Aberdeen High School, and attended Millsaps College and Mississippi State University. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. He was a Mason and a member of the Tombigbee Shrine, serving as president in 1997.
Services were at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with burial in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Lazelle Hankins Allen; a brother, Mayfield Allen; and a sister, Martha Harlow.
