  Harriet Davis McDuffie, age 80, wife of the late Glenn Larin McDuffie, of 1504 Shadicrest Terrace, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Born in Samson, Alabama on May 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Philip Jennings and Annie Belle Beasley Davis. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology. Mrs. McDuffie was a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross and a docent for the Huntsville, Alabama Museum of Art. She was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church where she was actively involved with the Upper Room Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Bible Study group. Mrs. McDuffie was an avid reader, gardener, cook and an accomplished seamstress. She is going to be deeply missed by her family who will fondly remember her as a most loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. McDuffie is survived by her daughter, Mary Knipfer and husband, Mark of Spartanburg; her son, Philip McDuffie of Austin, TX and his fiance, Ellen Lockwood of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Mary Watkins and husband Billy of Enterprise, AL; four grandchildren, Laura Brand, and husband, Scott of Greenville, Shannon Knight, and husband, Taylor of Norfolk, VA, Erin America, and husband, Adam, of Boiling Springs, and Larin McDuffie of Nacogdoches, TX; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew and William Knight of Norfolk, VA, and Gracelyn America, of Boiling Springs. A celebration of her life will be conducted Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with The Reverend Luther H. Rickenbaker, III presiding. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be given in remembrance of Mrs. McDuffie to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness, Southern Regional Office, 4600 Marriott Drive, Suite 340, Raleigh, NC 27612; Central United Methodist Church Building Fund, 233 N.
