Gender Male Obituary - William Howard Culps, 89, of Athens, Alabama passed away Thursday night, January 17th at Arbor Springs Nursing Home, located in Opelika, Alabama. He was born March 7, 1923 in Limestone County to Marvin Culps and Nora Green Culps. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had an extensive library of World War II Naval books that he greatly enjoyed . He taught air conditioning & refrigeration for many years at Decatur Trade School, later known as John C. Calhoun State Tech School & Limestone County Tech Center. He also had his own business, Culps Refrigeration. He was preceded in death by both his mother & father & his first wife, Elree Couey Culps. He was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations to be made to Southern Care Hospice, 7067 Sydney Curve, Montgomery, AL 36117.
He is survived by his wife, Althea Prestage Culps, his two daughters, Stephanie Goel & her husband, Atul, of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Debbie Wise & her husband, Benny, of Opelika, Alabama; his 4 grandchildren, Rohan William Goel, Michelle Foshee, Jeff Wise, & Derek Wise, and 4 great grandchildren.
The service will be held at McConnell Funeral Home, with brother Joe Teal officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12 noon-1:45PM and funeral will follow at 2PM. There will be no graveside service.
