Charles May in household of Sumler May Obituary - Charles S. May, age 90, of Blackstone, passed away Monday, November 17, 2008.
He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, Lona Robertson and Virginia Gunn, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Louise Robertson May; his siblings, Ardene Coulter, Agnes Shields, Ila Campbell, Allen May, Flossye Boyd, and Ariel May.
Charles was a native of Alabama and lived in Delaware prior to moving to Blackstone in 1981. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, having served with the 181st Engineer Battalion during the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. A retired farmer, he was of the Methodist faith, a member of the VFW, Woodmen of the World, and the Farmers' Co-op.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at St. Mark's United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home, 1400 S. Main St., Blackstone, VA 23824 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
