    • Learon Shepherd Porter age 106 died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at her daughter's residence in Columbus, just one day prior to her 107th birthday. Services will be held Saturday, April 02, 2011 at 4:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Lammons officiating, burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday, from 2:00 p.m until service time.

      Mrs. Porter was born on Friday, April 01, 1904 in Fayette, AL to the late Lando and Lora Belle Vice Shepherd. She had been a resident of Lowndes County since 1927. She was a homemaker and worked at the New Hope School lunch room for about 18 years. She was the dear mother to 7 children. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Vandiver H. Porter, her sons, Henry Landon, Mitch, and Valcus (Valk) Porter. Survivors include: Two Daughters: Wynell Davis, Columbus, MS Shirley Berry, Spanish Fort, AL

      Two Sons: Alvin Porter (Rebecca), Columbus, MS Burneal Porter (Earlene), Lompoc, CA

      15 Grandchildren, 41 Great Grandchildren, and 26 Great Great Grandchildren

      Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was blessed to have so many dear friends, and the ladies of the church, and enjoyed their visits, calls, cards.
